Dear Pl@ntNet users,
We hope your passion for the richness of the plant world continues to flourish! We are delighted to share the latest advancements of Pl@ntNet and invite you to support our 2024 donation campaign.
Thanks to your generosity last year and our involvement in several research projects (Guarden, Mambo, Pl@ntAgroEco), we have achieved great milestones. Pl@ntNet continues its development, offering new features and opportunities to nature and botany enthusiasts worldwide.
In 2023, we reached an incredible milestone: Pl@ntNet surpassed one billion plant identifications and now covers 53,000 plant species (8,000 more in one year). Your contributions have also supported over 850 scientific publications, consolidating our crucial role in the knowledge and protection of biodiversity.
Where do your donations go?
– About a quarter of the donations are used for our servers and infrastructure.
– Two full-time employees are dedicated to the ongoing development of Pl@ntNet.
– The ergonomics and design of the web version have been improved.
– Our AI-based identification model has been improved.
– New features have been added to the mobile version, such as exploring species around you.
– Several new languages are available.
Our projects for 2025
Since 2022, we have been working on GeoPl@ntNet, a new application to map and explore plant biodiversity, and we are planning to release the first version in 2025. But the adventure doesn’t stop there: our beta testers will be able to identify plant diseases and cultivated varieties from 2025 before a wider official public release.
We are also pleased to announce that we were finalists in the international XPRIZE Rainforest challenge, collaborating with several Brazilian and European research teams. This experience will help better cover the biodiversity of tropical regions.
Why is your support essential?
Your generosity is essential for Pl@ntNet to remain free, independent, and ad-free, and continue to be an accessible resource for everyone. We are launching our donation campaign on our website and mobile app. Every donation counts, no matter the amount. Thanks to you, we can continue our goal of broader sharing of biodiversity knowledge.
